FRCC Offers New 4-Year Degree in Business For Creative Industries

The scent of cinnamon and cloves filled the common area of Red Cloud Peak for a special event: an art show featuring the works of FRCC students like Emma Louis and her Medusa candle.

Booths ranged from art pieces to clothes to homemade soap and candles, all for sale.

The event was meant for art students to sell their art, as FRCC has launched a new degree program on how to make creative arts profitable.

A new bachelor’s degree being offered at FRCC will prepare students to make careers out of this and a host of other creative pursuits – including photography, theater arts and digital design.

FRCC last fall introduced a new Bachelor’s of Applied Science in business for creative industries.

This is FRCC’s third Bachelor’s degree completion program.

Disciplines include multimedia graphic design, digital animation, graphic design, video production, web design, interior architecture and design, music and recording arts technology, studio art, computer-aided drafting and design, architectural engineering and construction, creative writing, commercial photography, theatre and performing arts, and arts management.

Instructor Jillian Wentzel, who organized the art show and has her own design agency, said it’s important for students to visualize careers built around their artistic talents.

“I didn’t just do this to help students learn about sales,” She said, adding that she did it, “So other students will take an interest in art and support small businesses.”
