Podcasting at Front Page goes back much further than Up Front.
Long before Up Front was created, Front Page had already experimented with podcasting as another way for student journalists to tell stories and connect with the FRCC community. Those earlier podcasts helped establish a history of audio journalism at Front Page, giving students another way to report, interview, and share stories beyond the written page.
Years later, that tradition continued with Up Front, FRCC’s favorite – and entirely coincidentally, only – podcast!
The original Up Front was hosted by Isabel Delgado, who was normally joined by co-host Alex Ziemek, along with occasional guests and other members of the FRCC community.
Together, Isabel and Alex got Up Front with FRCC students and staff, talking about events happening around campus and interviewing members of the FRCC community to hear their stories and perspectives. The podcast also gave them an opportunity to ask some of the tougher questions that students wanted answers to.
Rather than simply reporting on what was happening at FRCC, Up Front brought listeners directly into the conversation. Students, faculty, staff, and other members of the college community appeared throughout the show’s run, helping capture different parts of life at FRCC through their own voices.
But Up Front wasn’t the end of the story.
The podcast eventually returned for a second version titled Up Front (Again), this time hosted by Alex Ziemek.
Up Front (Again) carried on the spirit of the original show while beginning a new chapter for the podcast. Alex continued sitting down with people from across the FRCC community, discussing what was happening around campus and giving students, faculty, and staff another place to share their stories, experiences, and perspectives.
While Up Front (Again) had a new host and its own identity, it continued the same basic idea that had been at the heart of Up Front: creating conversations with the people who make FRCC what it is.
And even Up Front itself was part of something much older.
From Front Page’s earliest podcasts, to Up Front, and eventually Up Front (Again), podcasting became a recurring part of the publication’s history. The names, hosts and formats changed over the years, but each generation of the podcast gave Front Page journalists another way to document what was happening at FRCC.
Together, those shows represent different eras of Front Page podcasting and the students who helped keep it going.
Although Up Front and Up Front (Again) are no longer in production, their episodes remain part of the Front Page archive and offer a look back at the students, staff, events and conversations that shaped FRCC during their runs.
And the story isn’t over.
While Front Page’s podcasts may be quiet for now, podcasting will return in the future. Just as the shows have changed and evolved throughout Front Page’s history, a new generation of students will have the opportunity to pick up the microphone and continue that tradition.
The next Front Page podcast may have a different name, a different format, and different voices behind the microphones – but the goal will remain the same: giving the FRCC community a place to tell its stories and be heard.
