FRCC’s nursing program – the best in Colorado – is launching its Exercise Science program. This is designed for students who are passionate about promoting health and fitness.

The program, which applicants are eligible for this summer, offers an Associate of Science (AS) degree that can transfer to four-year universities in Colorado. According to the official program page, the curriculum is made for students aiming to become personal trainers, physical education teachers, athletic trainers, or physical therapists.

“We’ve seen a growing demand from students and the job market for programs that connect science and wellness,” said Janet Ruiz, director of the Health and Exercise Science program. “This degree is a launchpad for careers that can make a difference in people’s lives.”

Students in the program will take courses in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and human nutrition to learn how the body responds to movement, stress, and physical activity.

The degree plan also includes general education requirements and elective options that strengthen critical thinking.

The most compelling feature: guaranteed transfer. Thanks to Colorado’s statewide transfer agreements, graduates can take their AS degree straight to a bachelor’s program in Exercise Science or related fields at CSU, UNC, or other participating universities—saving time and tuition.

A former high school athlete at FRCC is planning on studying sports medicine. “I didn’t want to leave Colorado or go into debt,” she said. “This program is going to let me stay close to home and get set up for a bachelors in athletic training.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in exercise-related fields – personal trainers, coaches, therapists, wellness coordinators, and so on – is expected to grow faster over the next decade. FRCC’s program aims to guide graduates right at the heart of this growing workforce.

Applications are open now for the upcoming semester. Interested students can visit FRCC’s website or meet with an academic advisor to learn more.

As the health and wellness program continues to take center stage in Colorado life, FRCC is making sure its students are ready to lead the charge.
