A Summit for Change

FRCC’s Equity and Inclusion Council may not be something that you run into every day on campus, but the team, comprised of staff and students, is working on facilitating safe spaces and an inclusive experience for everyone in the FRCC community.

The main event that the council is hosting this year is a Summit that will take place on Friday, March 29th at the Fort Collins Marriott, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. The event is free and open to students, faculty, and staff. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the schedule includes two breakout workshops, and a keynote session with speaker Kathy Obear.

This year’s theme is “Influencing Change.” This name flows from the idea of having a conference in which attendees can take away ideas about how to create change in our spheres of influence. One person’s sphere of influence might be small, but if many people are changing their overlapping spheres in the same direction, we can move toward a more equitable world.

Keynote speaker Kathy Obear is the founder of The Center for Transformation and Change, and has given speeches, facilitated training sessions, and consulted to top leaders at hundreds of universities, human services organizations, and corporations. Her goal is to inspire passion, competence, and the commitment to create inclusive, just environments for everyone. Her work includes fostering conversations around White allyship and antiracism, and about how to build tolerance for racial conversations.

The summit will conclude with awards given to students, student organizations, faculty, staff, departments, and community members who have demonstrated excellence in equity.
