On February 13th, FRCC’s Career and Transfer Services held their bi-annual transfer fair.
“We’re trying to help students have access on our campus to transfer reps,” Priscila Rodriguez, Director of Career Services, said. “I think we have 22 different institutions here today with transfer reps that can answer questions about their programs, about their transfer process, about housing, about what financial aid looks like at their schools. I think this is a much easier way for students to get their questions answered in one place as opposed to having to research each individual one.”
At the fair was a variety of different colleges and universities which offer a variety of programs, all of whom want to attract FRCC transfer students.
“Most of our programs are going to be very business and technology in nature,” Monica Bindel, from CSU Global, said. “Some of our programs that are going to be the most popular, and actually rated highest in the country, are going to be our accounting programs, project management, HR.”
“The great thing about CSU global is that it offers an alternative for students who want to complete their degree with a nonprofit state university, want to save money, but maybe they want to work, and have families, or things like that, too,” Bindel said. “It allows you to do all of that and still finish in a reasonable amount of time.”
A number of the institutions at the event are offering new programs.
“We just started a new environmental science program, as well as our engineering program, which is in partnership with CU Boulder, Josh Acuna, from Western Colorado University. “So you’ll get a CU degree, but at a smaller campus.”
“Since we’re a smaller size, we really like to broadcast that we have a really intimate learning environment, as well as great opportunities for outdoor education, engineering, business, stuff like that,” Acuna said. “Just due to our size, we really have a great community and everybody really gets to know each other. So if you’re looking for a smaller size, we’re a great option.”
In addition, a number of institutions are offering discounts.
“We have affiliation agreements with Front Range and transfer to CSU global, we’re going to take their transfer credits, and they’re going to get a ten percent discount on tuition,” Bindel said. “Doesn’t sound like a lot when you’re looking at it per credit, but [it adds up to] a big chunk of change.”
