Indoor Mayhem – Malibu Jack’s Thornton – Review

Visualize yourself in a space with people running amok, arcade games buzzing with activity, and go-karts that are racing in a high-octane dash. I formed those impressions as I explored Malibu Jack’s, a family-oriented indoor theme park, with a recently opened location in Thornton.

In sum, I found the vivid landscapes of the indoor theme park and the vivacious atmosphere of the many pastimes particularly noteworthy.

Leading up to the opening of the amusement center, a business report from the city of Thornton thrilled me with its details on the amenities that would be included in the park.

Initially, I predicted that the entertainment house would be a combination of other well-known family fun establishments, as the report stated that it contained bowling lanes, just like Main Event, and also held miniature golf, just like Boondocks.

It turned out that the game center exceeded my expectations, as it not only has bowling and mini golf, but also holds other riveting attractions, such as laser tag and a drop tower, among others

Apart from the ordinary arcade games I interacted with that can be found at virtually any arcade, like toy claw machines, racing simulators, or fixed shooters, there is one unique diversion that grabbed my attention.

I played one chance-based amusement called Monopoly Roll N Go, centering around Monopoly, the famous board game. The player spins a very large dice held in place by two pillars, for it to land on some kind of property, just like in the actual game. Landing on a property determined how many tickets I earned.

Speaking of tickets, the Play Card streamlined my experience, which is the payment method one must use to engage with any game. To acquire this card, you simply go to the customer service desk to request one, pay a $2 activation fee, and load however much money you want onto the card.

Since I didn’t want to spend too much money on gaming, I only loaded $20 onto my game card during my first visit, which is enough to afford between 5 to 20 games. Keep in mind, however, that these figures can vary significantly, as some attractions cost a greater sum of money to play than others, affecting how many times you can play.

Leaving the realm of high scores, I turned my attention to the miniature golf section, which carried a tropical theme with it. Props scattered across the golf course evoked relaxation and warmth.

Just like a tropical island, there are several common objects, such as palm trees, volcanic rocks, and lush vegetation, to name a few. Despite being artificial, the props convinced me I was in a balmy jungle.

Funny enough, when I began at the start point of the golf course, no attendant swiped my playing card, like at other large attractions. So, I took that as an opportunity to serve myself, by acquiring my own golf club, golf ball, and score sheet, and I played for free!

After my golfing adventure, I wanted to add more money to my arcade card, because I knew that I had a low balance. Fortunately, there are reload stations next to the customer service desk, allowing you to add funds to your card.

My last stop was the Redemption Center, so that I could spend my earned credits on something of value. As I explored the shop, I came across simple rewards like candy, plushies, handheld games, and toy sports equipment, to mention a few. I redeemed my tickets for a tootsie pop, as it is one of the few inexpensive rewards.

While I am pleased with these prize displays, I do feel that the center could contain more practical items that may be worth more tickets, to incentivize longer play. For instance, it can offer smartwatches, Bluetooth speakers, or perhaps even a grand prize, like a game console.

Lastly, I wanted to touch on the weekday specials that are offered at this indoor amusement park, as those contribute to its overall value. I visited the park on a Wednesday, so I capitalized on Half-Off Arcade Play, letting me play many arcade games at half the original price.

Additionally, Monday’s deal is Half-Off Bounce Beach (an indoor playground), Tuesday represents free Malibu golf, and Thursday serves as free laser tag.

To conclude, the Malibu Jack’s location in Thornton does an exemplary job at creating a setting that truly captures the essence of a tropical getaway, while offering a plethora of activities for families and individuals alike.

However, a few additions could be made, namely adding more prizes with higher value, such as electronics or housewares, to reward extended playtime. Whether you are in search of a weekend escape, a fun, casual spot for you and your friends, or want someplace for solo leisure time, Malibu Jack’s delivers.
