Hey FRCC fam!
Guess what? Hispanic Heritage Month is coming up, running from September 15th to October 15th, and we’ve got some awesome events planned right here on campus. It’s the perfect time to dive into the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latinx communities. Whether you’re part of these communities or just curious to learn more, there’s something for everyone!
Why Hispanic Heritage Month?
So, why do we celebrate this month? It all started back in 1968 as a week-long event and was later expanded to a whole month in 1988. The dates are special because they match up with the independence days of several Latin American countries like Mexico, Costa Rica, and Chile. It’s a time to honor Hispanic and Latinx people’s amazing impact on our society, from art and music to science and politics.
What’s Happening on Campus?

Last year’s potluck was one of my favorite events. I tried homemade empanadas for the first time and ended up chatting with some amazing people about their family traditions. It really made me feel more connected to everyone on campus. Plus, trying out the different dishes was a blas, but it was all laughs and good vibes. All of these events are hosted in the multi-cultural center local to your campus.
How to Get Involved
- Show Up: Just come to the events! Whether you’re dancing, eating, or crafting, your presence makes a difference.
- Bring a Friend: Invite someone to join you. It’s always more fun with friends a good way to distract from school work stress.
- Share Your Story: If you feel comfortable, share a bit about your heritage or traditions. It’s a great way to connect and learn from each other.
Hispanic Heritage Month at FRCC is about celebrating who we are and where we come from. It’s a chance to embrace diversity, learn new things, and build a stronger community. So mark your calendars, get excited, and let’s celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month together!
