Bingo! Drag Queens at FRCC

If you found yourself playing bingo at one of the events which took place at each of FRCC’s campuses last week, you were in for a treat. Miss Zarah and Miss America razzled and dazzled in fabulous outfits – calling out numbers, cracking jokes, and hyping up the room with musical performances.

Students won prizes such as a Camelback backpack, a speaker, and an eye massager, but even those who didn’t win a prize came away with a smile.
We talked with Miss Zarah and Miss America at the Larimer campus on Thursday after the show.

When asked what advice she would give students, Miss America said, “I think mine would be follow your passion. If you’re passionate about something, you’ll make it work.”

Miss Zarah said, “To continue educating yourself, and I don’t mean like continue school and get all these degrees, but to continue to learn and be open minded about things. I think we should never stop educating ourselves about different people, different worlds. I think when you stop, you become old and you don’t progress.”

Talking about what she took from her own college experience, Miss America said, “Great friends! Some of my best friends are people I met in college. I’m really lucky to have had that in a college situation, because we went to a commuter college. We weren’t in a situation where we lived in dorms, we weren’t forced to be together all the time, so it was really great to come out of that situation with people that I call my best friends.”

“I would agree,” said Miss Zarah. “The great people that I’ve met, and that motivation to continue to meet new people, and see what other people have to bring to the table, and how you can work together.”

So, what is the best way to make friends? “Doing social activities like this!” said Miss America, motioning to the bingo tables. “We did theater, so we were put into theatrical shows together. It does make it easier. But I’m sure there are clubs on campus.”

Miss Zarah said, “You spend a whole semester with people. Make a friend in a class that you’re in! Meet someone new in every class that you’re in. That’s how you really build those connections. And it’s okay to say hello and be friendly to other people. People want that. We thrive on that.”

When asked to pick a favorite FRCC campus, they couldn’t decide. “All three were super awesome!” said Miss Zarah. “Tuesday, Wednesday, and tonight – all incredible. Everyone was so welcoming, kind. And that’s what it’s all about.”

“It’s such a good environment,” said Miss America. “It’s so cool that they brought us in to do this.”
