Have you walked around near or in the Student Life Office and noticed an abundance of bread products sitting on carts?
Lately, employees from the Student Life Office have offered free bread products to passersby in the hallways by leaving them sitting on black carts. There were staples like hamburger buns, hot dog buns, and loaves of bread.
As to why the bread came to campus in the first place, it was intended for the Student Food Pantry and provided by the Food Bank of the Rockies, stated Tim Mellon, Director of Student Life and Engagement.
However, as a result of a misunderstanding between the college and the food bank, extra bread was delivered that exceeded the order placed by Student Life.
Importantly, some fresh foods like bread are already distributed once prior to receipt at the food pantry on campus, meaning expiration dates become apparent sooner.
“So we try to distribute them as quickly as possible; that is why you saw some in the hallway,” Mellon elaborated.
For students who missed the bread displays in the hallway, some of the goods are still available in the Student Food Pantry.
