Ten Ways to Spend Your Summer in & Around Denver

  1. Make a Splash: When the temperature starts to rise, visit a water park or community pool to beat the heat. For a more thrill-seeking experience, take on a thrilling water slide or high dive into a refreshing swimming pool. Check out all of these local options to cool down.
  1. Movie Nights: There are great ways to check out a summer blockbuster or a replay of a classic at Movies in the Park, The Alamo, and The Promenade. Plus, did you know FRCC’s Student Life office offers AMC Yellow Tickets and other deals for the movies? You can also keep it closer to home by setting up a backyard movie night, and invite family and friends to enjoy a film under the stars. Don’t forget the popcorn and the blankets!
  1. Take a Hike: Explore scenic hiking trails, national parks, or local nature reserves. This is an easy way to connect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors. From a mapped-out adventure to a quick trip, remember to plan. Be sure to always consider local regulations, weather conditions, and safety guidelines.
  1. Let’s Dig In: Enjoy a barbecue at home or your local park. Pack a picnic and blanket to enjoy one of these local spots, and keep it even more local with a backyard BBQ or picnic. Food and drinks are always a great way to spend time with friends and family. Did you know that the Botanic Gardens allows picnics? A picnic and the Lavender Festival sound (and smell) perfect.
  1. Jamborees & Festivals: Attend a local summer festival happening right in our area. You will be immersed in the vibrant atmosphere that can only be found at a festival. 1. Shindigs: Summer is full of memorable concert experiences, from exploring new artists, to free (that’s right: free) concert series. You are bound to discover hidden gems along the way. No matter your taste in music, there is a concert series bound to get the foot tapping.
  1. Go Outside and Play: Whether you are a rookie or a novice in volleyball, tennis, or frisbee golf, playing sports is a great way to stay active and have fun with friends. With such a wide range available to us, it is easy to engage in outdoor sports like soccer, pickleball, and cornhole. When temps climb into the 90’s, grab your eWolf card and check out our FRCC indoor basketball court, weights, and jogging machines. Also quick hint: Ice Hockey during the summer is super chill.
  1. RTD Exploration: From the Lightrail to the Bus system, public transportation is a great way to get around. Explore where the RTD can take you with the added bonus of discounted passes available through Student Life here at FRCC. 1. Set up Camp: Plan a camping trip with friends or family to experience the beauty of nature. As you roast marshmallows around a campfire and enjoy stargazing, memories are sure to be made. While you are planning your trip, why not stop by some hot springs to soak it all in?
  1. The Cherry on Top (Sweet Treats): What’s better on a hot summer day than to treat yourself to delicious ice cream or gelato from our local vendors of sweet treats? Whether you are looking for frozen yogurt, shaved ice, or a Paletería, don’t forget to treat yourself this summer!
