FRCC President Dr. Colleen Simpson Runs For President

Although late to the race, our very own community college president Colleen Simpson has announced that she is going to run for the president of the United States.

While many see it as a longshot, Simpson believes she has a legitimate chance. Her campaign manager told me that, “because of her years of experience in academia, she understands young people particularly well.” And, her campaign claims, “once young people, as well as all Americans, hear her message, she knows they will stick with her.”

Running as an independent, current FRCC president Dr. Colleen Simpson believes strongly in abolition of zoos.

“‘That was so messed up,’ I heard one guy say once when he was exiting the Denver Zoo, and I know many others who share that guy’s sentiment. Zoos are places animals are kept in captivity against their will,” she said at a campaign fundraiser. This is an issue where Simpson is strongly opinionated, she is admittedly “disgusted with zoos,” but she has a solution. Dr. Simpson advocates that, “nature is what got us here, and so we should let nature take its course.” If elected president of the United States, our current community college president promises to “open up the zoos,” allowing the animals to run free.

While I have heard of those who are concerned about the prospect of elephants, zebras, giraffes, and polar bears roaming the streets of our cities freely, FRCC student Zimboc Loligagger believes in Simpson, and agrees with this policy. She states, “It is unfair to keep those poor animals locked up. The clear solution is to let the beasts run wild. We should share our spaces with animals. If someone gets eaten by a polar bear, or a wildebeest stampede blocks traffic, that’s just something we are going to have to deal with for what we have done to those poor animals.”

Whether students find themselves to be pro zoo or pro animal freedom, Zimboc says, “we need to come together as Front Range students, and get our president elected!”
